Key takeaway
Google's AI label help page now adds California, South Korea and Vietnam to the places where ads with AI-made assets carry a visible label. Here's what that means for your campaigns.
Google's help page on AI content labels for Google Ads now lists California, South Korea and Vietnam alongside the European Union, India and New York as places where ads with assets marked as AI created or edited show a visible label on the ad itself. The page was showing the six locations when I checked it on November 6, 2026.
What changed
Google's Use AI content label settings and disclosures help page explains that you can mark an asset as created or edited with AI. When you do, ads using that asset include a disclosure in the "How this ad was made" section of My Ad Center, which people reach from the three-dot menu on ads.
The page also says that "in some geographies, AI labels will also show on the ad itself." For campaigns targeting the European Union, India, New York, California, South Korea and Vietnam, ads with assets you designate as AI created or edited "will also include visible overlays on the ads."
When Google published its Updates to AI labeling requirements (July 2026) policy note, it named three regions with AI rules: the European Union, India and New York. California, South Korea and Vietnam are the additions. Google hasn't put a date on when they were added to the help page.
Who it affects
This matters if you run Google Ads that target any of those six locations and use images or video that were made or edited with AI, whether you made them in a design tool or generated them inside Google Ads.
A few points from the help page are worth knowing:
- Google may label assets itself in some cases, such as where it is legally required to, and those labels can't be overwritten.
- When Google's fully automated features create and serve creatives, assets may be labeled on your behalf.
- Images and videos generated with Google Ads AI tools carry non-visible SynthID watermarks and C2PA markup.
- Google says using the AI label setting "doesn't guarantee your compliance with specific regulations," and advises seeking legal guidance.
What to do now
If you advertise in California or the other listed locations, here is how I would handle it:
- Check your current labels. In Asset studio, open the Asset library and look at the "AI label" column. You can filter by it to see which assets are labeled.
- Label assets that were made or edited with AI. Open an asset's details page in the Asset library, choose the option to label it as created or edited with AI, and save. When you build a new campaign, you can manage AI labels at the "Review assets" step.
- Review generated assets as you create them. When you generate assets in Google Ads, you can select each asset and choose a label option before you use it. The "AI label" column shows each asset's status.
- If you add your own label to a creative, place it with care. Google says your own labels won't break its policies on text overlays and watermarks. It recommends keeping them away from corners and edges, which can be trimmed, and opting out of image enhancements that can crop them, such as Asset Enhancements for Display and Performance Max and Adaptive Layouts for Demand Gen.
- Get legal advice where it matters. Google is clear that the setting alone doesn't guarantee compliance, so if AI-made creative is a big part of your ads in these places, talk to someone who knows the local rules.
